Who am I? Well I’m glad I asked!
My name is Dale Goodie, I am 28 years old and to be honest with you I’m not really anyone all that important….yet.
2 years ago I was a happy go lucky sheet metal worker. Today I am a Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist and an Author. What a difference, Huh? Here’s my story…………
In October 2006 I was forced to quit my nice secure job as a Unionized Sheet-metal Worker after being diagnosed with “Menieres Disease” (it’s really not as bad as it sounds). The disease causes minor balance disturbances for me and occasionally ringing in the ear. As a Sheet-metal Worker I was always working in the air on top or along side of commercial buildings, usually quite high in the air. After taking a minor dizzy spell, I consulted my doctor and many tests later the diagnosis was decided.
At home with little to do I started going stir crazy. A friend of mine gave me his guitar and I decided to take a stab at writing music to pass the time, 6 months later I had over 50 songs and decided maybe I should see a producer to see if they were any good. After searching through the yellow pages I found and met with Georgie Blue, a Producer and Bass player from the U.K now living in Canada. With my girlfriend Jen by my side and no cash what so ever, I showcased a few of the songs I thought were my best and he decided immediately to invest his time in me.
With the help from my Dad in Alberta I wrote a song called “They died with pride”, the song was written for all of our fallen soldiers of NATO and their families, you see, I was born in a military town, Kingston, Ont. and my Uncle is a retired MP so it was important for me to do this song. After my Producer heard it we decided to record the song immediately, shoot a music video www.youtube.com/dalegoodie and get it out there to be heard. Again having no money to fund this project I was blessed with a local management company (If Go To Next) and they decided to support me and fund the project. The song still hasn’t been released to mass public, but it has definitely circulated throughout the CF with very positive feedback. A portion of proceeds go to “Kingston Military Family Resource Centre” www.kmfrc.com as well.
So that’s all good and fine but what the heck am I doing writing a blog titled “Spotlight on Heroes” for? Shouldn’t I be busy writing music? Yes, and I am.,
After High school I went to College took Radio Broadcasting and 6 months into the course..if that, I dropped out. I decided learning wasn’t for me. I got a real job and made some nice cash and well of course you know how that worked out!
After writing “They died with pride” I started getting a real desire to learn again, I wasn’t really paying attention in High School so when I started studying history a few months ago, I was really fascinated with the reading. I decided that it’s never too late to learn and so, for all those people out there who did the same thing as me and slept through history class, but wish they hadn’t, pay attention because we are going to learn together.
This Blog is going to focus on the people of the Past and Present, who are/were heroes. Some you will know of, others will be everyday heroes. I encourage people to send me their everyday heroes and I will blog about them. Well enough talkie, talkie let’s get started.
